I need to increase volume of Alto part so I can hear it louder than the other parts. Not a published song that would have a karaoke track anywhere on Internet.

Yes, you can download an MP3 recording and use vanBasco's Karaoke Player to adjust the volume of individual parts. This will allow you to increase the volume of the Alto part to hear it louder than the other parts.
The VanBasco's Karaoke Player worked fine on Windows 8, but after the upgrade to Windows 10, I can only play forward and I can only play each .midi file once. I lost the sound. Now I have to restart the Player for each .midi file or I want to go backward on the current.

The latest version of the software was released in 2014 (almost 2 years ago). Windows 10 was released this year. I have checked the official website, but didn't find anything related to Windows 10.
It's impossible to say when the developer will update the application for Windows 10 operating system.
Use the contact email on the About page to get in touch with the developer to ask him about possible releases for Windows 10: http://www.vanbasco.com/about.html
The application is compatible with Windows 95, 98, ME, NT 4, 2000 , and XP. The last update is from the year 2004. Since then the application hasn't been updated anymore. You can try downloading it on your computer because it's free. You can also try installing in Windows 8.1 because nothing bad will happen.
The playlist disappears once the Sony Duo laptop with Windows 8 is restarted. What's the cause?

Try running the application as Administrator. This happens because the software does not have necessary rights to save the file and since it's installed on a system partition, it's necessary to run it as Administrator.
